Arunachal Pradesh located in the north-eastern part of India is nearly 84,000 sq km in area and has a long international boundary with Bhutan to the west, China to the north & north-east and Myanmar to the east. It stretches from snow-capped mountains in the north to the plains of the Brahmaputra valley in the south. Arunachal is the largest state areawise in the north-eastern region.
Arunachal became a full-fledged state on 20-Feb-1987. Till 1972, it was known as the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA). It was given the Union Territory status on 20-Jan-1972, and renamed as Arunachal Pradesh.
National Informatics Centre, Arunachal Pradesh State Centre was initially setup at Block No.4, 3rd Floor of Civil Secretariat, Itanagar and started functioning from 16-Nov-1988.At present, it is working from 2nd Floor,Block No.-03, Civil Secretariat
Gradually, NIC, District Centre´s were set up in 16 out of a total 20 districts and in DC Capital office. This facilitates in linking these district headquarters to the State capital, Itanagar and rest of the country through Internet via NICNET.
